Hello, GitHub! I’m Erica Brescia

I’ve been excited about GitHub ever since I was introduced to the company while at a conference in 2008. It has been incredible to watch GitHub’s growing impact not just on how software is developed but also on how communities of developers work together. Software is truly changing the world, and I could not be more excited to be joining GitHub—the company at the center of it all—as Chief Operating Officer and help us scale to the next 36 million users and beyond.

After more than 14 years as a software company founder at BitRock and Bitnami, I wanted the opportunity to bring my entrepreneurial mindset to an organization where I could be as passionate about the mission and vision as I was when I was a founder. I couldn’t think of a better place to do this than GitHub. Having spent most of my career in the open source software world, I have a deep appreciation of the power that comes from developers and other project contributors empowered to collaborate effectively from anywhere in the world.

I love the GitHub mission and what it stands for—enabling everyone, everywhere to code, collaborate, and connect with the global community of developers. I also love GitHub’s commitment to remote work and building a globally distributed team. This is the best way to attract the best talent from around the world, and I am excited to help shape how GitHub grows as a tight-knit family of both office and remote workers.

My role as COO is to bring out the best in what the GitHub team already has within it, and to continue to grow and optimize how we work. My immediate focus will be on scaling our Support, Business Development, and Workplace Experience teams, and my role will change over time as the business needs evolve.

I’m thrilled to be joining the company at such an exciting time, with so much opportunity ahead of us. GitHub has already come so far, but we have barely scratched the surface of what we can accomplish. Onwards and upwards!
